Tong Overhead Crane Brief Introduction

Tong overhead crane is a hoisting machine used for lifting billets, steel coils, and other objects based on  double girder overhead cranes, equipped with different clamp spreaders. The clamping mechanism of the tong crane is parallel to the main beam, and its rated lifting capacity is the sum of the weight of the clamp and the material. It is mostly used in fixed-span indoor and outdoor occasions such as steel mills, shipyards, ports, storage yards, and warehouses to load, unload and transport steel slabs, profiles, and other materials. It is especially suitable for lifting and transporting slabs of different specifications. It can be equipped with different clamps according to the specifications (thickness, length, number of sheets, etc.) and weight of the material to meet the lifting and transporting requirements. According to customer requirements, we can provide speed regulation of each mechanism (1:10 or greater), overload and alarm, remote control, PLC control, fault detection, display system, etc.

Tong Overhead Crane Details

Most of the cranes currently on the market are hook cranes. When hoisting steel coils or other cylindrical heavy objects, the heavy objects need to be tied up and then lifted and transported, or a straight bar is used to pass through the cylindrical heavy objects. Then use the hook to hook the ropes at both ends of the straight bar to lift and transport. This lifting speed is slow, the safety is not high, it is easy to slip off, and it is not suitable for large-scale and fast handling of cylindrical heavy objects. Especially for the loading, unloading, and handling of steel coils on steel coil production lines and steel coil distribution centers in large steel mills, a safe, reliable, and fast-moving hoisting device is required—clamp cranes.
The clamp bridge crane mainly includes a bridge frame, a traverse mechanism, a lifting mechanism,  and a clamp mechanism. Crane tongs include log tongs, skid tongs, timber tongs, lifting tongs, industrial tongs, metal tongs, rail tongs, ingot tongs, scissor tongs, billet tongs, etc.

  • Supporting Tong: Supporting Tongs are suitable for single-size objects such as boxes, crates, boxes, and containers with a support gap below. The lifting feet of the tongs support the load and keep it on a level lifting surface.
  • Gripping Tong: Gripping Tongs are suitable for materials such as round or cylindrical objects such as ingots, coils, tubes, tubes, etc. The clamps extend beyond and below the load center for additional support. The diameter of the load can vary by about 25%, but the variation in length is usually infinite.
  • Pressure Tong: Pressure Tongs grip the vertical sides of slabs, bales, boxes, billets, and other flat or round objects. The pads on the pressure clamp provide surface friction or penetration of the load to maintain a safe hold during handling. Pads can be equipped with rubber, belts, pins, hardened points, serrated bits, and other materials.

Features and Advantages of Tong Overhead Crane   

  • Simple structure and convenient operation: based on the existing crane, the present utility model replaces the original hook part with a clamp mechanism so that the clamp can perform horizontal opening and closing movement, and at the same time, through the lifting mechanism on the clamp mechanism. The tongs grab heavy objects. Other structures and operations are the same as those of traditional overhead cranes. You only need to press the button on the controller during operation.
  • Safe, reliable, and easy to maintain: the switch of the clamp mechanism is controlled by multiple mechanisms such as the motor and brake, which can effectively prevent the clamp from loosening when carrying heavy objects. When the power is off, the motor cannot work, and only needs to be replaced during maintenance. Corresponding damaged parts are sufficient.
  • Stable operation and accurate positioning: The reducer can control the opening and closing movement speed of the clamp mechanism, and the front and rear movement of the clamp mechanism is controlled by the rigid guide device, which ensures the smooth movement and accurate positioning of the clamp mechanism.
  • Improve work efficiency and reduce the cost of use: use clamps to transport the cylindrical heavy objects, and directly clamp the heavy objects for transportation, without the need for other personnel to bundle the heavy objects and then transport them, which greatly saves the handling time. Improve work efficiency, thereby reducing the cost of use.
