The Development of China's Paper Industry

It has been researched that paper was first discovered in China in 200 B.C., much earlier than has been recorded around the world. The amount of paper that could be produced was initially quite limited due to the amount of manual labor required in the manufacturing of paper. This made a single sheet of paper very valuable. It was only from the mid-19th century that machine-based production became available, resulting in the ability to produce large quantities. Further technological developments made paper an essential everyday item in people's lives. Whereas the manual manufacturing process produced single sheets of paper, today's industrialization produces large quantities of paper. Today, we cannot imagine everyday life without paper products, from simple notepads to elaborate wrapping paper. One of the world's largest producers of paper is the People's Republic of China, with an annual production of more than 100 million tons.

Taiwan Customer's Paper Company Needs Overhead Crane

The customer's paper company was founded in Taiwan in 1978 and now has several production sites in China and Taiwan. The company produces corrugated board, packaging materials, customer-specific packaging solutions and more. Large companies in the food, IT and electronics industries are among their customers. During the production of these paper products, among other things, large paper rolls must be moved and the corresponding crane technology must be able to lift and move loads of up to 63 tons in a safe manner. The customer's company has many years of experience with overhead cranes. In recent years the customer's company has been expanding with further production sites in Wuxi, Pinghu in Hubei and Taiwan. 2022 saw the completion of another large investment project in a new production site in Hubei. The customer therefore needs to purchase new overhead travelling cranes for improving the production handling efficiency of the paper mill.

Double Girder Overhead Traveling Cranes Installed at Paper Mill in Taiwan

A total of three double girder overhead cranes were installed at this new production site. The huge paper rolls are lifted by three double girder cranes with a span of 37.2 meters and a hook way of 22.5 meters. Two of the overhead cranes are equipped with one wire rope electric hoist, each with a load capacity of 32 tons. The third overhead crane is fitted with a total of two hoists: in addition to a wire rope hoist, each with a load capacity of 32 tons, a second hoist with a load capacity of 63 tons is also installed.

When two wire rope hoists are used together to transport long and bulky loads, such as paper rolls, then it must be ensured that they are lifted evenly at all times to ensure safe load handling. Therefore, both hoists are equipped with an integrated synchronous controller. When traveling together, the lifting speed and the relative position of the hooks are always consistent (control accuracy of less than 25 mm in rated operation).
