EOT Crane Painting: Make Corrosion Protection for Your Crane

2024-01-02 17:46:53

Significance of EOT Crane Painting:

EOT cranes, also called electric traveling overhead cranes are commonly used in manufacturing plants, warehouses, and construction sites where they are subjected to harsh environmental conditions. Over time, exposure to moisture, chemicals, and other elements can lead to corrosion and deterioration of the crane structure. Painting EOT cranes is a proactive measure to safeguard them from such damage. Additionally, a well-maintained and visually appealing crane reflects positivelyon the overall image of the facility, creating a sense of professionalism and pride among employees and visitors.

Preparation for EOT Crane Painting

Crane Surface Rust Removal

  1. Before derusting all components of EOT crane, when there is water, oil and dust on the metal surface, compressed air and washing solvent shall be used to dry or degrease.
  2. Remove the rust, oxide skin, sludge, welding slag, splash, etc. on the surface of the component (a small amount of residual oxide skin is allowed at the places that are difficult to remove during shot blasting, and the residual oxide skin is removed manually).
  3. The metal surface of the derusted EOT crane components shall be carefully purged with compressed air.
  4. Before painting, the steel structural parts of EOT crane exposed to the air shall be subject to sand blasting or shot blasting surface derusting treatment (for plates with a thickness of less than 6mm, spray cleaning, manual and power tool derusting are easy to deform, and acid pickling derusting method should be selected). The surface pretreatment before painting shall meet the sa21/2 level of gb/t 8923.1-2011 standard, and other parts shall meet the ST2 level. After rust removal, the surface roughness reaches 40~80 μ m。
  5. After the derusting of EOT crane components is completed, the metal surface shall be cleaned and painted with antirust primer in time.

Preparation Before Painting

  1. The construction site should maintain good and safe access, good lighting and ventilation for surface treatment and paint construction, as well as quality inspection.
  2. All parts and components of EOT crane shall be cleaned before painting, and protective measures shall be taken according to the characteristics of equipment parts (the unpainted parts: nameplate, machining mating surface, cylindrical surface of brake wheel, tooth shaped part of gear, which shall be coated with grease or wrapped with plastic cloth before painting).
  3. The primed metal surface must be dry and free of moisture, frost and moisture layer.

EOT Crane Painting Steps:

Priming

  1. The primer of EOT crane shall be applied in a clean and dry place, the ambient temperature shall not be lower than 5 ℃, and the relative humidity shall be lower than 80~85%. During outdoor construction, it is forbidden to spray (brush) paint in the hot sun, rain, fog and sand.
  2. Apply one coat of primer according to the technical requirements. If it is necessary to apply two coats of primer, it must be dried before the last coat. Generally, the drying time is 24~48 hours at the temperature of 18 ℃ ~23 ℃.

Topcoat

  1. Whether it is L-shaped EOT crane, large EOT crane, engineering EOT crane, etc., the finish paint of EOT crane must be thoroughly dried after the primer is applied (the drying time is 24-48 hours at 18 ℃ ~23 ℃).
  2. Before painting the top coat of EOT crane, the oil stain and dust on the primer surface must be removed to make the surface clean (after degreasing, it should be dried at 18 ℃ ~23 ℃ for 0.2~0.3 hours) and there should be no moisture, dew frost and moisture layer.
  3. The finish paint shall be applied when the relative humidity is 40~70% and the temperature is 12 ℃ ~25 ℃. During outdoor construction, it is forbidden to brush and paint in the hot sun and sand.
  4. If it is required to apply two coats of finish paint, the second coat of finish paint can be applied only after the last coat of finish paint is dry (the drying time is 24 hours at 18 ℃ ~23 ℃)

Benefits of EOT Crane Painting:

Painting EOT cranes offers a range of benefits that contribute to the overall efficiency and appearance of industrial facilities. These benefits include:

  1. Corrosion Protection: The paint acts as a barrier against moisture and corrosive substances, extending the service life of the crane and reducing maintenance costs.
  2. Enhanced Safety: A well-maintained crane with a fresh coat of paint contributes to a safer work environment by minimizing the risk of structural degradation and potential hazards.
  3. Improved Visibility: Painting cranes in high-visibility colors or with safety markings enhances their visibility, aiding in safe operation and preventing collisions.
  4. Brand Representation: Customizing cranes with company logos or colors reinforces brand identity and creates a cohesive visual representation within the facility.
  5. Regulatory Compliance: In some industries, painting cranes according to specific color codes or safety standards is essential for regulatory compliance, ensuring adherence to industry guidelines.
