Workshops, warehouses, freight yards, railroads, and shipyards use Portal cranes as their lifting solution as a variation of overhead or bridge cranes.

Portal cranes are designed to lift small loads and heavy duty ones. The varieties of Portal cranes makes it possible to fit a Portal crane to any form of lifting application. The major benefit of Portal cranes is their ability to lift loads efficiently and safely to enhance productivity and save time and money.

What are their similiarities of the bridge crane and Portal crane?

1. Both Portal and bridge cranes are used to move extremely heavy loads. They both operate with hoists. These hoists can be wire rope or chain, electric, or air-powered models. Overhead lifting is another way they are similar.

Crane structure

The most obvious difference between these two cranes is the ways they are mounted.
Bridge cranes are mounted inside of the building they operate in. This makes them great for someplace where every inch of space is valuable.

Portal cranes are typically on wheels or mounted to a track system. Because they’re not mounted to the structure of the building, they are much easier to disassemble and move elsewhere. The Portal cranes on wheels are especially mobile. They can be moved inside or outside whenever needed.

Lifting Capacity

The benefit by having a big crane mounted to the structure of your building is you can lift some really heavy objects with ease.Bridge cranes take the cake when it comes to heavy duty lifting. Some bridge cranes lifting capicity can reach 100 ton, that is a huge number.

Portal cranes are not as capable when it comes to lifting. They can still lift heavy loads, usually going up to 15 tons, but that is a far shot away from the 100 ton limit on some bridge cranes.

Wocking Condition

Both bridge crane and portal crane are used to moving heavy objects, but their working conditions are different. Bridge crane are widely used in indoor environment, like factory, warehouse, assembly line.... As for portal crane&gantry crane, this has wider range of applications. It also can work well outside.
